About The Position
Looking for a summer job that’s more than just a job? Join a fun-loving, hard-working team at Southern Lumber & Millwork, a local, family-owned business serving the Lowcountry for 85 years. This paid summer internship is a hands-on opportunity for college students to gain real work experience, develop customer service skills, learn about building materials and operations, and build professional connections, all while enjoying the Charleston sunshine. Many of our interns return to work with us full-time after graduation. This could be your first step into a future career. As an intern, you’ll work alongside our experienced yard and operations team. You’ll gain exposure to: • Material handling and yard operations • Customer service and professional communication • Building materials, products, and industry basics • Workplace safety and teamwork • Daily networking with contractors, builders, and teammates Some interns may also have the opportunity to become forklift certified during the summer. Paid weekly.
Requirements
- Coachable, dependable, and eager to learn
- Team-oriented with a strong work ethic
- Customer-service minded
- Comfortable working outdoors and staying active
- Willing to ask questions and try new things
- In-person role in Charleston, SC
- Must already have plans to reside in Charleston, SC during the summer (family home, college living, etc.)
- Open to local college students only, students can be invited back for subsequent summer internships to learn more
Responsibilities
- Assist with loading, unloading, and organizing materials on the yard
- Support customers and drivers with a positive, service-minded attitude
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Follow all safety guidelines to protect yourself and your teammates
- Communicate clearly and pay attention to details
- Learn from experienced team members across the yard and warehouse
