Position Summary The Summer Intern provides supervised support to children and adults with autism, autism, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, and other complex behavioral needs. This position offers hands-on learning, exposure to evidence-based practices, and interdisciplinary collaboration in a mission-driven environment. Interns will gain experience aligned with their academic field of study and program requirements. Opportunities are available in Winchester, VA and Richmond, VA.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university program in psychology, applied behavior analysis, social work, special education, nursing, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, counseling, or related behavioral/health sciences.
  • Interest in serving individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
  • Ability to meet all required background checks, clearances, and health requirements.
  • Ability to adhere to scheduling requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of individualized treatment, behavior, or support plans under supervision.
  • Observe and assist clinicians, educators, and behavior specialists in direct service delivery.
  • Provide structured support in classroom, clinic, residential, or community settings.
  • Assist with data collection, progress tracking, and documentation as directed.
  • Participate in therapeutic, educational, or skill-building activities with individuals served.
  • Help maintain a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment.
  • Attend required training sessions, supervision meetings, and team briefings.
  • Communicate observations or concerns to supervisors using organizational protocols.
  • Work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team (BCBAs, Teachers, OTs, SLPs, Nurses, Social workers).
