About The Position

This 11-week internship provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in accounting, financial reporting, tax, controls, and audit within a global financial services organization. As part of John Hancock, the U.S. division of Manulife Financial Corporation, interns contribute to meaningful work that supports key business decisions and regulatory requirements. Students will develop technical skills, expand their professional network, and gain valuable exposure to a complex, dynamic financial services organization while preparing for future CPA and finance careers.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Strong academic performance: commitment to CPA certification post-graduation preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship, co-op, or work experience in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting standards (GAAP, IFRS, Statutory).
  • Familiarity with audit or risk management practices.
  • Demonstrated initiative and leadership through campus involvement or prior roles.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to build relationships across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to quarterly and annual reporting processes, including GAAP, Statutory, and IFRS deliverables.
  • Support management reporting, financial analysis, and preparation of external disclosures such as press releases and Management’s Discussion & Analysis.
  • Assist with tax provision and returns across the John Hancock complex.
  • Partner with the Controls Center of Excellence to enhance risk assessments, key controls, and governance processes.
  • Participate in internal audit activities to assess the design and effectiveness of governance, risk, and controls.
  • Engage in process improvement and automation initiatives within Wealth and Asset Management Accounting & Reporting.
  • Participate in professional development events, networking opportunities, and community volunteer activities throughout the program.
