About The Position

Our Summer Internship Program offers temporary, full-time (35 hours per week) employment from June 1, 2026, through August 7, 2026. Work Location: 30-30 Thomson Avenue, LIC, NY 11101 As the City's primary capital construction project manager, DDC builds many of the civic facilities New Yorkers use every day. We provide communities with new or renovated structures such as firehouses, libraries, police precincts, courthouses, senior centers and more. We also improve vital infrastructure. Our staff delivers roadway, sewer, and water main construction projects in all five boroughs. We provide sidewalks, street reconstruction, water mains, sewers, and pedestrian ramps quality infrastructure that is essential for a healthy, resilient city. DDC’s Summer Internship Program is an opportunity for a select group of students to gain valuable experience in the architecture, engineering, design, safety, and construction management professions within a public service context. Students will gain hands-on technical experience through specific field assignments or task specific office work and a mentoring relationship with senior-level technical staff. They will also have the opportunity, through a combination of seminars, site visits, and on-the-job training, to learn about the challenges of upgrading and constructing the City’s public buildings and street infrastructure. Alternative Delivery is responsible for implementation of the agency's design-build and CM-Build project delivery methods, in order to speed projects and lower costs while ensuring quality. This team implements a consistent delivery framework and ensures functional coordination between Public Buildings and Infrastructure and serves as a liaison across the agency's divisions. This includes work to leverage design-build resources and standards for the application of Progressive Design-Build, CM-Build, emergency completion contracts, and other alternative project delivery models. Alternative Delivery is seeking a summer intern to support in the advancement of alternative project delivery for the agency.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of program-wide resources, standards, and procedures.
  • Research industry best practices and monitor project lessons learned to provide actionable recommendations for the Design-Build program and launch of a new CM-Build program.
  • Assist with the development of an external facing webpage to promote DDC's new CM-Build program.
  • Assist with overall department reporting to support internal and external communications.
  • Gain exposure on design-build projects from project initiation to post-award phases and CM-Build projects in the procurement phase.
