About The Position

Our Summer Internship Program offers temporary, full-time (35 hours per week) employment from June 1, 2026, through August 7, 2025. Work Location: 30-30 Thomson Avenue, LIC, NY 11101, or 101 Tyrellan Ave, 2nd Fl, Staten Island, NY 10309, or 40 Worth Street – 8th Floor, New York, NY 10013. (Candidates selected for Construction Management and Coastal Resiliency – Construction positions: location depends on the assigned field office) As the City's primary capital construction project manager, DDC builds many of the civic facilities New Yorkers use every day. We provide communities with new or renovated structures such as firehouses, libraries, police precincts, courthouses, senior centers and more. We also improve vital infrastructure. Our staff delivers roadway, sewer, and water main construction projects in all five boroughs. We provide sidewalks, street reconstruction, water mains, sewers, and pedestrian ramps quality infrastructure that is essential for a healthy, resilient city. DDC’s Summer Internship Program is an opportunity for a select group of students to gain valuable experience in the architecture, engineering, design, safety, and construction management professions within a public service context. Students will gain hands-on technical experience through specific field assignments or task specific office work and a mentoring relationship with senior-level technical staff. They will also have the opportunity, through a combination of seminars, site visits, and on-the-job training, to learn about the challenges of upgrading and constructing the City’s public buildings and street infrastructure. The Infrastructure Division is committed to delivering best-in-class infrastructure projects for the City of New York, on time and on budget. A major objective of the division is the overall coordination of the different project components requested by the various sponsor agencies. This includes all aspects of a project including sewers (sanitary, storm, and/or combined), water mains (distribution and/or trunk), utility coordination, curbs, sidewalks, traffic signals, lighting, pedestrian ramps, hydrants, catch basins, trees, urban landscaping, plazas, total street reconstructions, resiliency, and flood mitigation. The Infrastructure Division’s is seeking 14 undergraduate Summer Interns to support the Design Unit, Coastal Resiliency – Design, Construction Management Unit, and Coastal Resiliency – Construction Unit. The Design Unit – Sections 1 through 5, and Coastal Resiliency – Design’s Summer Interns will assist in the performance of engineering work with moderate difficulty. Work/training will be in one or more of the following specialized engineering areas: design/drafting, construction, inspection, and operations. The Construction Management Unit – All Boroughs and Coastal Resiliency – Construction’s Summer Interns will assist a Resident Engineer and/or Inspector on one or more construction projects; take measurements and complete daily time and material worksheets; make sure the Contractor is in compliance with the Maintenance and Projection of Traffic (MPT), the Maintenance of Site Compliance (MOS), and keep an updated report; and conduct daily routine inspections.

Requirements

  • As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.
