About The Position
Upward Bound Instructors collaborate with program staff to deliver a rigorous project-based curriculum during the Summer Program. Instructors must encourage students to focus on college prior to high school, and encourage them to become lifelong learners. The Summer Program is hosted at Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, TX. The Summer Program instructional dates are June 15 - July 10. Two-week and four-week positions are available.
Requirements
- Baccalaureate degree
- Must have demonstrated subject knowledge in a subject area
- Must have experience working with high school students
- Must have patience and a strong desire to help students achieve their goal
Nice To Haves
- Teaching Certification
- Two years of experience teaching high school students
- Direct experience providing academic support & instruction for students from multicultural and low-income communities
Responsibilities
- Tailor and deliver a curriculum that addresses course objectives
- Utilize innovative classroom techniques and methodologies that involve students in challenging learning opportunities
- Facilitate a creative, active learning experience
- Provide feedback to students that will enhance their academic growth
- Monitor and report student attendance
- Refer to the supervisor those students not making adequate progress
- Formatively evaluate student progress and determine improvement strategies for students
