About The Position

Operation Breakthrough is seeking a Computer Tech Facilitator to lead an engaging, hands-on summer learning experience for high school students focused on computer hardware fundamentals. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys teaching practical tech skills and guiding students through real-world applications such as identifying computer components, and safely assembling and disassembling computers. The facilitator will create an interactive lab environment where students gain confidence working with technology at a foundational level.

Requirements

  • Experience working with high school-aged youth preferred
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware and components
  • Comfort with assembling/disassembling desktop computers
  • Ability to explain technical concepts in a clear, hands-on, student-friendly way
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
  • Dependable, patient, and team-oriented

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or repairing computers
  • Familiarity with IT fundamentals or technical training programs
  • Interest in STEM education or workforce development
  • Ability to create engaging, hands-on learning activities

Responsibilities

  • Lead hands-on instruction in computer hardware basics, including identifying internal components (CPU, RAM, motherboard, hard drives, power supply, etc.)
  • Guide students through safe assembly and disassembly of laptop and desktop computers and work towards WISE I and WISE II certifications
  • Teach proper handling, safety procedures, and care of equipment
  • Facilitate structured activities that build technical confidence and problem-solving skills
  • Supervise students in a computer lab setting, ensuring safety and engagement
  • Troubleshoot basic hardware issues and support student learning during activities
  • Maintain organization of tools, parts, and lab equipment
  • Collaborate with program staff to create a positive and supportive learning environment
