This project aims to apply our in-liquid plasma method to manufacturing and recycling energy important critical materials. This SULI student will work on a project “Valuable metal extraction using an in-liquid plasma flow reactor”. Though this work will primarily be done at MERF, the student has the chance to access instruments available in the DOE Center of Nanoscale Materials (CNM) via user for conducting various material characterizations. The research results will be summarized as a technical report, and then it can be published on a peer-reviewed journal. Through the summer internship, this student can: Understand flow leaching method for recycling value-add CMM materials; Gain knowledge and hand-on experience on operation of continuous flowreactor for recycling useful materials; Use a spectrum of analytical tools, e.g. DLS nanoparticle size analyzer, XRD,SEM/EDS, BET, and operando characterization (ML/AI); Gain laboratory experience in safe handling of nano-scale materials andchemicals in hoods, gloveboxes, during manufacturing, and post-process, as well as waste disposal. Learn creative, highly self-motivated and proactive approach towards scientific problem solving as evidenced by publications/recommendations; and Publish a high-quality of scientific paper if meaningful results are generated
