About The Position

The candidate will work with Argonne’s Interfacial Mechanics & Materials Group to study tribological performance and failure modes in sliding contacts. Using benchtop tribometers; characterization tools such as optical microscopy and white-light interferometry; in situ X-ray measurements at the Advanced Photon Source (APS); and, when needed, supercomputing resources to accelerate and advance data analysis, the project will track key tribological metrics (e.g., friction evolution) and map surface/subsurface damage and microstructural changes. The candidate will assist with experiments, specimen preparation and characterization, and data processing and reporting.
