About The Position

Under the general direction of the Clinical Supervisor, the SUD Therapist provides assessments, treatment planning, motivational interviewing, individual, group and family therapy, education, discharge planning, and coordination of care with referral sources and follow-up services.  The SUD Therapist will carry out all job responsibilities with fidelity and accountability to the Mission, Vision, and Values of the agency and commitments to Sanctuary.

Requirements

  • AA degree in chemical dependency studies or related human services field of study, or equivalent combination of education and related experience strongly desired.
  • New York State certification as a CASAC/CASAC-T, LMSW, LCSW, LMHC  or LMHC-P required.
  • At least one (1) year of experience as a Substance Use Disorder professional.
  • Ability to relate well with others and understand and know how to work as a team player.
  • Capable of balancing multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Ability to display empathy, warmth and compassion, as well as maintain boundaries and be supportive with clients.
  • Capable of practicing from a harm reduction based model of treatment.
  • Possess a strong understanding of trauma informed care.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess a willingness and desire to learn and grow within this position and the program.
  • Skilled at using various computer applications/programs, including, but not limited to MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.).
  • Must maintain a valid New York State Driver’s license and auto insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • First Aid/CPR training/certification also preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of various resources in and around Monroe County.

Responsibilities

  • Completes assessments per OASAS regulations.
  • Provides individual, family and group counseling and educational classes to individuals aged 16+ receiving substance withdrawal services.
  • Develops and implements a recovery care plan with input from each client.
  • Has the ability to integrate mental health therapy into a primary substance use disorder treatment plan for persons with co-occurring mild and moderate mental disorders.
  • Collaborates with medical staff in appropriate patient care, treatment planning and treatment referrals.
  • Provides crisis intervention when needed, utilizing the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Model.
  • Provides discharge planning, makes appropriate referrals and provides safe transition of care services.
  • Maintains documentation standards as per OASAS regulations and Villa of Hope policies.
  • Maintains professional boundaries and sets a positive example for clients.
  • Manages drop-in emergencies, and in collaboration with the medical staff, evaluates and determines the need for emergency services.
  • Effectively documents and communicates incidents with the appropriate staff and regulatory oversite bodies (e.g. OASAS, Justice Center).
  • Exercises confidentiality concerning clients.
  • Attends supervision meetings with direct supervisor as scheduled.
  • Participates in staff meetings and trainings, including daily huddles.
  • Occasionally provides transportation to clients in need of admission to, or discharge from the program; may provide transportation to clients during program if they need to attend urgent appointment in community.
  • Demonstrates a positive reflection Villa of Hope principles internally and externally, as well as promotes and practices Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging in relation to clients and staff through respect and understanding achieved through training, individual supervision, and Agency cultural activities.
  • Must maintain a valid New York State Driver’s license and auto insurance.
