About The Position

The role of the Substitute Teacher is to maintain classroom discipline and to carry on classroom procedures as if he/she were the regular teacher. The Substitute Teacher will work in the absence of the regular teacher, aiding students in their daily tasks and helping to ensure their understanding of the subject matter being covered. TeSA substitute teachers follow the regular teacher’s lesson plans, providing students with appropriate educational activities and experiences. He/she has the same responsibilities and the same duties as the regular teacher, including but not limited to drop-off and pick-up duty.

Requirements

  • Education – High school diploma required; college degree preferred
  • Strong command of English language
  • Detail oriented and able to follow written and/or oral instructions
  • Willing and able to work standing for most of the day
  • Able to communicate effectively with other personnel and faculty
  • Ability to carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Valid driver license

Responsibilities

  • Report to school office upon arrival and log time in the Substitute Teacher binder
  • Use materials provided to attain lesson goals
  • Direct the classroom, accomplishing curriculum objectives and goals outlined in lesson plans
  • Follow lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning, and that encourages students to participate
  • Modify teaching styles to fit the learning styles of various students
  • Take attendance according to the procedures of the school, keep classroom and work orderly, and maintain normal classroom rhythms
  • Return instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place
  • Comply with all procedures, guidelines, and policies of the school at all times
  • Ensure adequate student supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety inside and outside the classroom
  • Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible
  • Maintain a professional attitude in all manner of conduct with students, faculty, and parents, including a commitment to confidentiality
  • Performs arrival and dismissal duties as assigned
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/state policies and practices
