We want you to be a part of our journey! The Substitute Teacher provides classroom coverage and support to the classroom as needed. The Substitute Teacher reports to the Lead Teacher in the classroom for daily assignments and takes all directions in the classroom from the regular classroom staff (Lead Teacher and Teacher Assistant). The Substitute Teacher is to work cooperatively with the regular classroom staff and follow all daily classroom activities. All teachers serve as ambassadors for the school and the agency.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of an Associate degree in Child Development from an accredited institution or be enrolled in an AS program with 30 credits, but at least 15 credits must be in Child Development.
  • Infant Toddler (I/T) or Early Childhood Education (ECE) Gateways Credential Level 4.
  • A minimum of six months experience in an early childhood program.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with peers, direct reports, children’s parents, families, and community partners.
  • Experience providing classroom coverage in the absence of a regular classroom staff member or supplying extra coverage to work with specific children in a classroom.
  • Experience following lesson plans for classroom activities covering all developmental areas: language, cognitive, physical, personal, social/emotional, and creative.
  • Explore new curriculum ideas and implement the Project Approach along with the Creative Curriculum.
  • Adapt curriculum and provide leadership for planning and implementation of activities to meet each child's individual needs.

Responsibilities

  • Take direction from regular classroom staff as to any specific child development activities.
  • Provides supervision to children, reads stories, supervises outdoor activities, and assists in the transition of activities.
  • Completes reports and documents as directed by the regular classroom staff.
  • Supports children's play.
  • Assists in the setup, supervising the children, and clean-up of activities and meals with classroom staff.
  • A Substitute Teacher may also be relocated to other rooms or sites if needed
