About The Position

Job Summary A Substitute Teacher is responsible for teaching and supervising students in the absence of the regular teacher. They must follow lesson plans, manage classroom behavior, and ensure the safety and well-being of students. The substitute teacher helps maintain continuity in the educational process and may work across various grade levels and subject areas.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma required; a Bachelor's degree in education or a related field preferred.
  • Licensing/Certification: A teaching certification or substitute teacher permit may be required.
  • Experience: Prior teaching or classroom experience preferred but not always required.
  • Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage classroom behavior effectively.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in different educational settings.
  • Basic understanding of classroom technology and instructional tools.

Responsibilities

  • Classroom Instruction: Follow the lesson plan provided by the absent teacher or school administration.
  • Deliver instructional content to students using appropriate materials, tools, and resources.
  • Adapt lessons and activities as needed to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
  • Enforce school rules and policies to ensure smooth class operations.
  • Manage student behavior and address disruptions using appropriate methods.
  • Student Engagement: Actively engage students in learning activities to promote participation.
  • Provide guidance and support to help students understand the material.
  • Assessments and Feedback: Monitor student progress and provide feedback according to the lesson plan.
  • Administer quizzes, tests, and assessments as required.
  • Submit completed work and any necessary reports to the regular teacher or school administration.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with students, school staff, and administrators.
  • Report any issues or incidents during the day, such as conflicts or accidents, to the appropriate personnel.
  • Safety and Well-being: Ensure the physical and emotional safety of students at all times.
  • Follow any specific health, safety, or emergency protocols as required by the school.
