About The Position

PURPOSE OF JOB: To promote, implement and uphold the professional standards of school nursing practice and follow state and local health practice statutes, district policies and administrative guidelines. The substitute school nurse serves as a medical resource and health advocate for students and staff. This is an PRN position and will be considered temporary. Hours as close to 7:00am to 3:00pm as possible.

Requirements

• Licensed Practitioner Nurse (LPN)
• Current license to practice nursing in the state of Missouri.

Nice To Haves

• Baccalaureate in Nursing (BSN).
• Experience in Public Health Nursing is beneficial but not a requirement.

Responsibilities

• Supervises prescribed medical treatments and medication administration according to School Board Policy.
• Provides assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management and referral for appropriate medical care of students with acute/chronic health conditions in emergency situations.
• Provide medical and health services to students in the nurse’s office, other areas of the building (when needed) or on the school grounds (when needed).
• Maintains and updates the current health record for each student enrolled in the school.
• Collaborates with school support staff to meet health care needs of students and make referrals when appropriate.
• Maintains orderly health room and enforces school discipline rules as outlined in Student Handbook.
• Interprets student health care needs to families and school staff.
• Educates families through written communication and verbal contacts to encourage follow-through of health care referrals.
• Provides assistance and counseling for students with psychological and medical concerns and/or physical limitations and assists in adaptation of any limitations and makes referrals to school social workers when appropriate.
