About The Position

The paraeducator substitute performs a variety of instructional and classroom support and student supervision duties for the purpose of assisting the school and teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of assigned students.

Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age; and
  • Received a high school diploma or equivalent; and
  • Have received a passing grade on the Education Testing Service's Paraeducator Assessment; or
  • Hold an Associate of Arts degree; or
  • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an institution of higher education; and
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License
  • Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Greets visitors, parents, students, and staff in a welcoming manner.
  • Performs supportive tasks for the classroom teacher, including: correcting daily work, recording grades, typing and/or photocopying classroom materials, laminating materials, setting-up bulletin boards, taking and recording attendance.
  • Monitors and works with small groups of students on daily assignments and activities, which may include some direct instruction as planned by the classroom teacher.
  • Maintains instructional or reference materials, equipment and/or files and records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing reliable reference.
  • Monitors individuals and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. field trips, playground, classroom, computer lab, hallways, lunch room, health room, offices, bus, gymnasium, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of increasing staff capacity to implement identified student programs, including instructional and behavioral plans. This would include supporting other staff, as may be necessary, in any aspect of their assigned duties to supported students.
  • Maintains discipline in accordance with the classroom and school-wide discipline plans.
  • Maintains confidentiality in communications regarding students, staff and parents.
  • Projects a professional image at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by administrator(s).
