About The Position

Responsible for leading the subcontracts team within MasTec Renewables. The Director-Subcontracts will be responsible for strategic subcontracting analysis, monitoring industry trends that can impact subcontractor delivery, including labor pricing, quality, and availability, and developing subcontractor strategies that secure external resources to meet business objectives. This position will negotiate strategic framework and subcontract agreements for project specific services ensuring competitiveness, on-time delivery, and safety. This position will develop and maintain processes and systems utilized by the company to perform subcontractor sourcing, quotation, and execution related tasks and functions. Location & Travel Details: This is a remote position, which can be based anywhere in the U.S. This position supports our business across the United States. Must be able to work within normal business hours Monday-Friday between 7am-6pm of the applicable time zone. This position will require up to 25% travel. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Business or equivalent experience
  • Ten years’ related experience; experience within engineering or construction industries
  • Experience in Estimating and/or subcontractor bid analysis preferred
  • Experience negotiating; Terms & Conditions (T&C’s), Prime Contracts, Master Service Agreements (MSA’s), Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA’s), Assignment of responsibilities, Liquidated Damages, Insurance & Bonding requirements, etc.
  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the company’s Zero Injury principles
  • Ability to lead and manage others
  • Strong knowledge of construction contract development, negotiation, and deployment
  • Strong data analysis and advanced problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft office suite, especially Excel
  • Ability to leverage industry specific software and data mining from ERP software
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical documents
  • Basic understanding of estimating principles and software
  • Advanced understanding of terms, nomenclature and business models used in the construction industry
  • Familiarity with both union and non-union labor environments
  • Ability to be accurate, precise and follow set procedures and standards
  • Excellent collaboration and written, verbal and electronic communication skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels within the organization and with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies for subcontract delivery models
  • Analyze spend trends based on business requirements and projections to ensure market competitiveness of critical scopes of work
  • Collaborate with Estimating and Operations teams to secure subcontractor commitments
  • Develop and maintain subcontractor relationships that improve safety, quality, and market competitiveness
  • Lead and negotiate master agreements for critical scopes of work
  • Lead categorization of subcontractors to determine labor posture, geographic presence, scale, and availability
  • Analyze existing strategies, identify issues and drive improvements
  • Drive the implementation of industry best practices and a mindset of continuous improvement
  • Develop and standardize RFP packages, including scopes of work, schedule of values, etc.
  • Review, analyze and monitor assigned subcontractor capabilities, quotes, bids
  • Make recommendations to Estimating and Operations teams regarding subcontract opportunities and threats
  • Research, analyze, configure, and draw informed data driven conclusions of Key Performance Indicator (KPI)’s
  • Lead, manage, coach, and mentor direct reports or other Commercial Services personnel
  • Facilitate the timely resolution of issues with subcontractors related to price, quality, delivery, condition, etc.
  • Drive subcontractor sourcing processes from onset to closure
  • Monitor, update and improve systems, processes and documents used to perform subcontracting activities
  • Develop and maintain expertise on subcontracted services along with facilitating the sharing of knowledge with assigned staff and key stakeholders
  • Maintain and communicate knowledge of market conditions and industry activity that may impact business or outcomes
  • Work collaboratively with affiliate companies inside the MasTec family of companies when applicable to utilize available resources
  • Develop and maintain a subcontractor scorecard system
  • Research and evaluate new subcontractors
  • Other duties as assigned
