About The Position

The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) is made up of every undergraduate student at the University of Nevada. ASUN provides a means for students to voice concerns and address issues at the university, local, state, national, and international levels. The Director of the ASUN Department of Clubs and Organizations shall be the head of the Department and shall serve as a resource for club leaders, commissioners, and ASUN officials regarding matters of the Department.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno
  • Maintain a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in at least 7 undergraduate credits
  • Perform all duties and instructions outlined by the ASUN Governing Documents
  • Uphold the Nevada Student Code of Conduct
  • Meet all deadlines set forth
  • Attend all required meetings and training
  • Work scheduled hours
  • Properly complete and submit HR paperwork on time
  • Assist in the promotion of the mission of ASUN and Nevada
  • Behave in a manner that is ethical, maintaining a high level of integrity

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in ASUN as an officer or intern
  • Previous management, mentorship, or leadership experience with peers
  • Demonstrated track record of excellence in student outreach with clubs and organizations
  • Experience with budget management and financial planning through course of study, previous work experience, or extracurriculars
  • Solid understanding of the funding processes available to student clubs and organizations, including funding requests, grant applications, fundraising opportunities, and event planning guidelines
  • Strong organizational and management skills to manage and track processing of club registration, records, and coordination of funding requests within the department
  • Service-oriented approach to supporting the needs of club leaders and members through responsiveness to inquiries, willingness to provide assistance, and a proactive approach to addressing concerns or issues
  • Motivation to further the goals and initiatives of ASUN: Enhancing communication between clubs and club commissioners by providing transparent communication methods to offer necessary support and resources Promoting awareness of grant programs and initiatives available to registered clubs and organizations Holding club commissioners accountable to proactively reach out to clubs and organizations within their coalition and set aside hours to consistently meet with club leaders Expanding knowledge of club processes through diverse formats, such as social media and additional online spaces
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in providing support services to clubs and organizations
  • Flexibility and adaptability within role; ability to time manage and prioritize tasks
  • Willingness to mentor an intern during the fall and spring semesters

Responsibilities

  • To present a new appointment to the Senate of the Associated Students within the following two weeks of said committee or Senate meeting if an executive appointment is reported unfavorably by the Senate Committee on Oversight or if an appointee is not passed by the Senate, or in the event that the President is unable to find a qualified candidate within those two weeks, the President must present to the Committee on Oversight and explain the circumstances.
  • To act as President if, by reason of death, resignation, removal from office, inability, or failure to qualify, there is no President, Vice President, or Speaker of the Senate to act as President.
  • To chair and oversee all meetings of the Department of Clubs and Organizations.
  • To ensure consistent progress and request weekly updates for all Department projects and initiatives in the Department of Clubs and Organizations.
  • To manage the budget and account of the Department of Clubs and Organizations.
  • To act as a liaison between the Department and the Senate of the Associated Students for changes to governing documents and Department projects and initiatives requiring legislation.

  • To have a report read or spoken into the record at minimum every other Senate meeting.
  • To mentor and educate the Department of Clubs and Organizations Intern(s) that may be assigned to the officers in the Department of Clubs and Organizations.
  • Responsible for attending all ASUN retreats, and trainings as decided by the Director of Executive Outreach.
  • Other duties as called upon by my position
