About The Position

The Student Support Specialist coordinates, oversees, and executes a variety of technical and administrative functions associated with the ongoing development and implementation of the academic enrichment, support priority curriculum, and licensure examination progression. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline, plus two years business or office administrative experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Experience working with students, preferably at the graduate level.
  • Excellent administrative support skills.
  • Ability to work as a productive and collaborative team member.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals, both inside and outside the University.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Basic working knowledge of learning management systems, Brightspace preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Actively guide the student in meeting the curricular requirements of the Academic Enrichment and Support Priority courses, licensure examination progression, and the Resiliency in Leadership Distinction program.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for pre-clinical and clinical enrichment/support priority curriculum stakeholders (e.g. COM students and faculty; assistant clinical deans at clerkship sites; clinical campus administration; COM administration and staff; other university administrative and academic units; and non-university/non-clinical campus constituents).
  • Supervise and coordinate the Learning Management System (BrightSpace), ExamSoft for the creation and distribution of examinations, and other software platforms related to the scheduling, content distribution, curricular map, and student data tracking.
  • Collaborate with the course directors, associate dean for clinical education, the associate dean for academic affairs, UNECOM faculty, and staff, and university supports (SASC, SAC) to coordinate the development, design, production, assembly, posting and distribution of pre-clinical and clinical clerkship curricular materials (e.g. schedules, syllabi, learning resources, assessment tools, etc.) deemed appropriate for the implementation of the support priority or academic enrichment programs.
  • Manage the Level 1 Licensure examination pathway including scheduling and tracking of practice examinations, responding to student questions, tracking student progression, serving as a contact to the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME).
  • Schedule students for required learning activities, meetings, advising, and tutoring sessions.
  • Actively participate in continuous quality improvement of the support priority and academic enrichment curriculum.
  • Ensure student compliance with pre-clerkship and clerkship pre-requisites, as well as training and certification renewals, and transmit relevant documentation to affiliate clinical training site facilities, including, but not limited to, current professional liability certificate, student photos, background checks, medical records, biographical forms, confidentiality statements, letters of good standing, and other documents, as required.
  • Confer regularly with the course director and associate deans for clinical education and academic affairs, other college administrators, faculty and staff, other UNE personnel, and clinical campus administrators, faculty and staff to plan and coordinate activities, exchange information, and investigate and resolve problems related to COM curriculum and students.
