About The Position

The Case Manager II, Aims2UNC (Student Success Coach II), serves as the central function of providing supportive advising and coaching to students. This position provides academic advising and resource referrals to students, enabling them to make informed decisions about their short- and long-term educational trajectories. This position serves as a success coach for students as they complete their program of study at Aims and transition to continued educational pursuits at the University of Northern Colorado. Although this position involves academic advising and course recommendations, its primary focus is to provide success coaching to the advisee. In the spirit of appreciative advising pedagogy, the Success Coach II engages in student development activities to help students make proactive and effective decisions regarding their course and program choices. The Success Coach II will maintain an assigned caseload of advisees, engaging in regularly scheduled meetings, proactive interventions/follow-ups, and will be available for additional questions as the student's primary point of contact within the division. The position also supervises Case Managers I (Student Success Coach I) and assists the Director, Transitions Programs, with daily oversight of the Aims2UNC program. This position does require occasional travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, plus four (4) years of related work experience. Of the required four (4) years of experience, one (1) year must be supervisory and/or demonstrated leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Appreciatively advise and coach students dealing with complex academic situations by: explaining Aims' academic policies and procedures, aligning a student's program of study at Aims with their desired continued education pursuits and future career opportunities, providing unofficial evaluation of transfer credits for course equivalences and possible application to Aims programs of study, monitoring academic progress of students toward degree completion, identifying current and potential needs or problem areas (e.g., study skills, tutoring), and referring students to appropriate campus resources for assistance.
  • Update and maintain the Aims2UNC Academic Advising Desk manual to reflect the most up-to-date practices, policies, and procedures of the Aims2UNC program.
  • Maintain and update existing academic advising resources ( i.e., advising checklists, registration worksheets, and template emails), and create new materials when needed that continue to promote the collaborative nature of the Aims2UNC program, which often includes co-advising with other departments both at Aims and UNCO.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the advising units at Aims, UNCO, and the Statewide advisor network in an effort to keep the Aims2UNC program up-to-date on advising discussions and continue to promote the collaborative nature and co-advising components of our program.
  • Monitor graduating student progress, help facilitate a seamless transition for all advisees to the University of Northern Colorado, and coordinate any reverse transfer considerations in an effort to promote degree completion here at Aims.
  • Assist students with academic suspension and financial aid (credit limit, satisfactory academic progress, etc.) appeals.
  • Teach students how to use the college's systems and technology (such as Workday).
  • Educate and empower students to develop the ability to identify and articulate their strengths as well as areas for growth.
  • Assist students in goal setting and academic planning.
  • Engage with and meet with students via in-person and virtual appointments, phone calls, texting, email, and occasional drop-in advising.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for advisees to other offices at Aims.
  • Manage an assigned caseload of students on career and academic issues, identify educational options appropriate for each student, and assist with the analysis of each option, including possible outcomes and their implications through consistent outreach efforts.
  • Create and maintain records and files for advisors to use with students, utilizing an integrated database system.
  • Check, various forms for accuracy, assist students in their completion, sign related forms as an advisor, remove holds when appropriate, and document student interactions on appropriate platforms, including Workday.
  • Educate and advise prospective students, parents, high school personnel, and the community on academic programs on college admissions requirements, financial aid policies, residency requirements, and College policies.
  • Assess the students' stage of development and promote growth by assisting students in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals.
  • Utilize resources such as transfer guides to assist students in course selection and career goals.
  • Engage in the initial career planning process by explaining the connection between majors, interests/abilities, and career goals; keep accurate log notes that reflect the discussion and essential information conveyed to students.
  • Maintain and update existing academic advising resources (i.e., co-curricular maps, advising checklists, registration worksheets, and template emails), and create new materials when needed.
  • Assist in the maintenance of an appreciative advising model that emphasizes the practical application of the program of study, Curriculum maps, and prioritizes co-curricular learning through the utilization of available resources at Aims.
  • Assist in planning and implementing College-wide and campus retention strategies. Connect students to events/activities on the Aims campus.
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of academic program requirements and college processes, procedures, and policies; when appropriate, assist students in navigating these systems.
  • Attend appreciative advising training and complete certification requirements therein as prescribed by the College.
  • Engage, create, and foster a culture of assessment and innovation in the Pathway Advising department and at the College
  • Supporting belonging by fostering an environment where all students feel a sense of belonging and are encouraged to contribute their perspectives and experiences to the campus community.
  • Enhancing cultural competency building and maintaining a deep understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds, identities, and experiences to provide informed and empathetic support to students from various demographics and backgrounds.
  • Supervise and support Aims2UNC Case Managers (Student Success Coaches).
  • Engage with and develop training for Aims2UNC Case Managers (Student Success Coaches).
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead specific programs or projects as assigned.
  • Serve as a leader for staff within the department and division
  • Work collaboratively with other departments, staff, and faculty in administering admissions, advising, and recruiting programs and projects.
  • Serve on committees within the campus and/or community as appropriate to support and promote the College
  • Connect and develop relationships with academic affairs, in particular the programs within the case manager's assigned Pathway portfolio.
  • Assist with student success programs or initiatives such as orientation of new students, graduation ceremonies, and special award/recognition events to support and promote student success.
  • Facilitate student learning and development of problem-solving by identifying alternative options as they relate to their life and career goals.
  • Educate and empower students to develop the ability to identify and articulate their strengths as well as areas for growth.
  • Utilizing case management, Appreciative Advising, and other student development techniques, encourage students to use a growth mindset and think about their future, and equip students with skills and resources to achieve their goals.
