About The Position

We’re seeking a passionate and resourceful Student Services Manager to join our team with a start date of June 15, 2026. The person filling this role will design, implement, and lead a comprehensive, compliant, and student-centered counseling program for a new Ohio-based virtual high school. This role is responsible for establishing systems that ensure accurate graduation tracking, state compliance, and equitable student outcomes, while building a strong, collaborative counseling team from the ground up. This leader will serve as a key member of the school’s leadership team, working cross-functionally to align academic programming, student services, and operational systems with Ohio’s graduation requirements, accountability model, and reporting structures.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in school counseling, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • 3+ years in an academic counseling role at the high school level
  • 3+ years managing people in a school counseling department
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
  • Tech-savvy with an ability to learn new platforms quickly, such as gradebooks, Google Classroom, curriculum platforms, and Google Workspace
  • Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) responsible use of AI tools to increase efficiency in the education sector
  • Current resident of Ohio or willing to relocate to Ohio
  • All MOAO staff are considered mandated reporters and are required to respond to student safety and mental health concerns in accordance with the MOAO Crisis Response protocols. This includes participating in required training and, when appropriate, administering the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and following all documentation and escalation procedures.
  • MOAO staff are expected to have 40 hours of availability each week on a year-round basis.
  • A minimum of 25 hours of availability per week during school hours, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm in the Eastern time zone is required to accommodate office hours, staff collaboration, and student communication.
  • Availability in the evenings occasionally to accommodate parent meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Build and launch a comprehensive high school counseling program aligned to Ohio graduation requirements (credits, EOCs, seals)
  • Design scalable systems for graduation planning, credit tracking, student interventions, transcript accuracy
  • Establish counseling and advising workflows that support both compliance and student-centered service delivery in a virtual environment
  • Develop partnerships with community colleges around the state to offer Dual Credit opportunities for students
  • Develop a career and technical pathway for students as an alternate path to graduation
  • Serve as the school’s subject-matter expert on Ohio graduation requirements, End-of-Course Assessments (EOCs) and other Ohio state tests, Graduation seals, EMIS reporting structures
  • Develop and oversee processes ensuring accurate credit assignment and subject-area coding, proper documentation of graduation seals, alignment between course offerings and state standards
  • Partner with operations teams to ensure clean, audit-ready data systems
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate a team of school counselors and student advisors

  • Provide ongoing coaching and professional development aligned to best practices in virtual school counseling and student advising
  • Design and implement systems & supports for identifying and assisting at-risk students
  • Lead schoolwide efforts to improve student attendance and engagement, credit attainment, on-time graduation, performance on Ohio State Tests
  • Ensure equitable access to resources and clear pathways for all students
  • Lead the development and implementation of SIS workflows, graduation audit systems, transcript review protocols
  • Continuously evaluate and refine systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
  • Accurately interpret and utilize student data to provide up-to-date information and recommend changes in our new processes as needed
  • Collect education and career data of alumni to determine the effectiveness of our school and recommend adjustments as needed
  • Support student enrollment expansion goals by communicating with prospective parents and providing clear and actionable data to show solutions for their educational needs
