About The Position

Welcome to Miaplaza! Our vision is to elevate online learning by applying the most successful approaches in virtual education to create an accessible and inclusive homeschool curriculum platform where all students can be successful! MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio is our newest offering for Ohio families looking for a flexible public school option. The school will serve grades 7-11 in its first year. The school aims to serve 250 students year one, with plans to grow to over 1,000 students by 2030. šŸš€ We’re seeking a passionate and resourceful Student Advisor to join our team with a start date of July 6, 2026. This is a fully remote role that emphasizes building positive student relationships, coaching student growth, monitoring progress, and managing records and data. While students complete coursework asynchronously, the advisor role includes frequent live meetings and real-time student support. Advisors may maintain a secondary role in engagement, teaching, or administrative duties depending on their expertise and the school’s needs. As an MOAO Student Advisor, you will be integral in shaping the community for our students, parents, teachers, and staff. As a growing and evolving school, MOAO values advisors who take initiative, contribute ideas, and actively participate in improving systems and processes as we scale. Advisors are encouraged to share feedback, pilot new tools or workflows, and collaborate with leadership to refine advising practices over time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Secondary Education or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of full-time experience in a student-facing role at the secondary level (grades 7–12)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with families about expectations and performance and collaborate with colleagues to support student success.
  • Demonstrated professional judgment and ability to balance empathy with accountability in student-facing decisions.
  • Willingness to support administrative tasks, lead a club, or assist with coverage during busy periods
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a caseload independently
  • Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment
  • Comfort adapting to evolving systems and implementing new processes
  • Proficiency with online tools and ability to learn new platforms quickly
  • Current resident of Ohio or willing to relocate to Ohio
  • All MOAO staff are considered mandated reporters and are required to respond to student safety and mental health concerns in accordance with the MOAO Crisis Response protocols. This includes participating in required training and, when appropriate, administering the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and following all documentation and escalation procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the daily point of contact for assigned students, addressing their academic concerns and supporting their growth.
  • Conduct advising meetings to address academic concerns, support student success, and apply social-emotional learning strategies to promote engagement, persistence, and progress.
  • Monitor and analyze student data between advising meetings to identify indicators of struggle or disengagement, assess patterns over time, and initiate appropriate support as needed.
  • Maintain clear, timely documentation of student interactions, advising decisions, and follow-up actions
  • Partner with Academic Counselors and teachers to support individual student success and continuity of care.
  • Contribute ideas and feedback to improve advising processes, student supports, and school systems in collaboration with advising leadership.
  • Engage with students in online social spaces, clubs, and events, fostering a safe and supportive online community
  • Participate in regular meetings with other MOAO staff and faculty members to discuss student advising and engagement strategies
  • Act as a liaison between students, families, and school administration to ensure clear and effective communication
