About The Position

Under the direction of the Dean of Advising and Retention, the Downtown West Student Services Advisor will be responsible for the daily administration and operations of Student Service programs. These areas include: student recruitment, academic advising, career services, financial aid and payment, records and registration functions, and/or student life for students enrolled in academic programs at the Downtown West campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required
  • Experience in working with a wide range of students and community groups
  • Previous community college work.
  • Must possess the ability to keep information confidential.
  • Must use independent judgment to solve problems.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills are required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Excellent demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and function autonomously.

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree in higher education leadership, counseling, or student affairs field.
  • Knowledge of collegiate academic/financial aid procedures.
  • Spanish language skills are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Student Affairs division advisor to students enrolled in academic programs at the Downtown West and at the Mulford Road campus
  • Coordinate and provide activities, including, but not limited to: recruitment, registration, new student orientation, program information sessions, student success workshops, advising, career counseling, financial aid assistance, payment processing, and student life.
  • Case-manage current students in all Downtown West programs
  • Monitor, track, and support registration, re-registration, certification, and degree completion tracking, and related reporting.
  • Actively participate in career fairs, recruiting events, and other related activities
  • Support, monitor, track, and report: course, program, certificate, and degree completion activities and outcomes
  • Provide career planning and job placement support and reporting, in conjunction with the Director of Career Service &Job Placement.
  • Provide support to the development and improvement of programs and services to reach a diverse student population.
  • Foster an environment of departmental collaboration to ensure the successful delivery of academic support and student services.
  • Develop academic pathways that aid students in transferring to other RVC campus locations to complete transfer or career program requirements.
  • Facilitate information sessions and facility tours for prospective students, businesses, and community partners,
  • Use the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software to accurately manage schedules, provide advising notes, and update relevant activities.
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures related to current roles and responsibilities.
  • Respond to all inquiries, disputes, and complaints in student services areas.
  • Teach STU 100, 101, or 103 courses as needed and appropriate.
  • Create a Downtown West communication plan that emphasizes responsive, respectful, and individualized support to the needs of prospective and current students.
  • Develop reports that highlight how efforts at the Downtown West campus align with Student Affairs Divisional goals.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with all academic departments including at the Downtown West campus.
  • Ensure proper procedures are implemented and followed.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student workers.
  • Serve on RVC committees as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Some evening and weekend hours will be required.
  • Regular attendance is expected.
