About The Position

The Indian Ocean World Centre (IOWC) at McGill University seeks one (1) part-time undergraduate research assistant, whose primary responsibility will be to facilitate the IOWC’s research on the environmental history of the Indian Ocean World, such as through online archival research. Additionally, the RA will help to facilitate the IOWC’s events, such as our annual conference, and act as an editorial assistant for the IOWC’s publications. The latter include the Journal of Indian Ocean World Studies, the Indian Ocean World Centre Working Paper Series, and various publications written by the IOWC’s members. Requirements

  • Be working towards their undergraduate degree in an Arts-based field e.g. history, literature, communications.
  • Have demonstrable experience in an editorial role, such as with a student newspaper or academic publication.
  • Have an interest in Indian Ocean World Studies as an interdisciplinary scholarly field.
  • Before applying, please note that to work at McGill University, you must be both authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located.
  • McGill University is an English-language university where most teaching and research activities are conducted in the English language, thereby requiring English communication both verbally and in writing.
