About The Position

The Materials Analysis Lab is seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about using an additive manufacturing process to fabricate parts from novel resin composite materials. The student researcher will formulate composite photocurable resins and fabricate parts using a DLP 3D printing process. Parts will be tested and analyzed with a universal testing machine.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate student in the Fowler School of Engineering at Chapman University.
  • Interest in conducting hands-on research at the intersection of materials science and mechanical engineering.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Good oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Responsible and organized, with good documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how to operate a resin 3D printer to fabricate parts.
  • Conduct mechanical testing using a universal testing machine.
  • Work with research advisor to analyze and interpret data and actively work on moving the project forward.
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation of research methods, data, and findings.
  • Work with other students and researchers in the Fowler School of Engineering Makerspace and Materials Analysis Lab
  • Attend weekly meetings with research advisor to discuss progress.
