About The Position

Conduct independent research in environmental geochemistry related to supervisor’s principal research. The position will assist and supervise undergraduate students with their projects and pursuit of their own research. The research will involve a wide range of analytical methods ( SEM , ICP - OES , XRF , DLS , BET ) to investigate sediments and soils, synchrotron-based experimental data acquisition and processing. Lab-based experimental design, sampling and processing.

Requirements

  • Strong basic wet chemistry skills, including the use of a pH meter, autopipet, centrifuge, analytical balance and stir plate.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, specifically with respect to generating scientific graphs
  • Bachelor’s degree with research laboratory experience in an appropriate field with preference given to candidates with a degree in chemistry, geology, biochemistry or related field.
  • Completed courses in general chemistry
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to learn/operate laboratory equipment and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Writing skills to summarize research findings and integrate into scientific manuscripts.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to interact and work collaboratively with other researchers.

  • Training and advising of new undergraduate research students
  • Literature search, reading, summarizing and integrating into scientific manuscripts
