Position Summary: The primary purpose of the Student Life Counselor (SLC) position is to serve as a direct caregiver for students from grades 6-8 or 9-12, within a designated house. This role involves helping students achieve their academic and social goals. The main focus of the SLC is to create, establish, and maintain a safe, secure, productive, and interactive environment within the residence halls. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Build trust and advocate for students; provide emotional and social guidance; maintain confidentiality; monitor physical and mental health needs, making referrals as necessary; report concerns such as abuse or emotional distress. Support students and families during orientation and transitions; maintain communication with families regarding student progress; involve them in key decisions; participate in family conferences. Teach and model SEED core values, appropriate behavior, and social skills (H.A.L.L.S.); foster responsibility, problem-solving, and self-management; maintain a developmentally appropriate behavior system using consistent expectations, incentives, and natural consequences. Create a structured environment for studying; assist with homework; teach study skills; review academic progress; collaborate with teachers and seek academic resources as needed; support college preparation. Ensure student safety through supervision and awareness of their emotional state and location; encourage participation in leisure, community, and recreational activities; promote hygiene, physical activity, and healthy decision-making related to relationships, substance use, and wellness. Maintain a safe, clean living environment through regular inspections and emergency preparedness; manage house routines and documentation (logs, schedules, incentives, lesson plans); implement life and social skills programming; assist in new student orientation. Participate in ongoing training; set professional goals; seek and implement feedback; evaluate performance in collaboration with supervisors. Perform other tasks as required and/or assigned by supervisor(s). Core Competencies Demonstrates an understanding of and respect for individual differences and cultural diversity.
