About The Position

The Director of Student Life is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of student life on a college or university campus. This position develops and implements programs and initiatives that promote student engagement, personal development, and a positive campus culture. The Director of Student Life works closely with student organizations, clubs, and committees to support their activities and ensure a vibrant campus community. This role collaborates with other campus departments and administrators to address student concerns, plan events, and provide resources and support services for students. The Director of Student Life is responsible for managing residence life programs, student conduct, and student leadership development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree OR Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience

  • Experience planning, coordinating, or supporting student engagement initiatives such as campus events, student activities, including co-curricular activities, or leadership development.
  • Degrees in Student Affairs Administration, Education are preferred
  • Completed degree(s) may be substituted for experience on a year-by-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Directs CNM’s Student Activities Office, Veterans Resource Center, and Co-curricular Learning Initiative teams. This includes high-level strategic planning, funding/budget oversight, policy development, data strategy, and supervision of manager and director level positions.
  • Supervises staff, including prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff is trained, ensuring employees follow policies and procedures, maintaining a healthy and safe working environment, and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Administers Higher Learning Commission required co-curricular endeavors and accreditation reporting.
  • Sits on CNM’s Accreditation Committee, Assessment Academy, and CIPR Support Committee as EMSS and co-curricular representative.
  • Serves as required member on specific committees, including CNM’s Behavior Intervention Team (BIT) and CNM’s Graduation Ceremony Committee.
  • Serves on other committees, task forces, and working groups as appropriate.
  • Leads the Student Life Data Strategy and Funding Strategy planning committees.
  • Develops quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis plans.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Data Strategy team to implement college-wide data collection aligned with CNM’s Strategic Plan and initiatives.
  • Collaborates on the writing of departmental funding and legislative proposals in collaboration with the CNM Grants Department to implement new projects fostering student engagement, belonging, and wellbeing.
  • Manages grant reporting for current Student Life funding.
  • Provides advice and training regarding services, access, and care of students in crisis.
  • Consults CNM Student Government in support of its Advisor.
  • Represents CNM at community and statewide events, including legislative engagements in partnership with CNM’s Policy Liaison and lobbying team.
  • Monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness.
  • Partners with divisional and institutional offices to increase enrollment and persistence rates for culturally diverse, underrepresented, and low-income, first-generation student populations.
  • Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
