You’ll find a supportive work environment at BMC, with rich opportunities throughout your career for training, development, and growth We are seeking for an MPH Practicum student to join Boston Center for Refugee Health and Human Rights (BCRHHR) within Boston Medical Center’s Immigrant & Refugee Health Center (IRHC). BCRHHR is a hospital-based program and a member of the National Consortium of Torture Treatment Programs whose mission in part is to provide services to refugees and survivors of torture the majority of whom are asylum seekers. Practicum students will be assisting with data collection for the Office of Refugee Resettlement grant as well as with the administration of Mental Health and well-being measures. There will also be opportunities for assisting with ongoing research projects.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a Master of Public Health program, preferably with a concentration in Epidemiology and Biostatistics or Community Assessment, Program Design, Implementation, and Evaluation
  • Adherence to the highest standards of professional conduct, including both verbal, non-verbal and written (including email) forms of communication.
  • Team-oriented attitude with ability to also work independently
  • Extremely well-organized and detail-oriented
  • Proficiency with SAS or R, Microsoft Office applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data systems management preferred

Responsibilities

  • Planning and coordinating the initiation of research study protocol
  • Maintaining the study Redcap database, ensuring timely and accurate data collection
  • Administering and entering mental health questionnaires
  • Attending meetings with principal investigator and other study personnel for updates pertaining to the study progress and mental health measures
  • Analyzing quantitative data using SAS/R
  • Performing descriptive and inferential statistics as necessary
  • Assisting with the development of grant report forms
  • Students will have the opportunity to attend monthly research meetings, and weekly Grand Rounds in the Department of Psychiatry, OBGYN, and General Internal Medicine.
  • The student would report directly to the Senior Research Assistant, Akanksha Keswani, MPH, under the supervision of Josephine Hwang, PhD, who would supervise them and assist in balancing responsibilities and managing priorities.
