The TCNJ Center for the Arts is seeking candidates for a Student Events Usher position. Job Description: To serve as an Events Usher in the arts and performance venues on campus for the School of the Arts & Communication and TCNJ Center for the Arts as well as for other clients holding events in these venues. Under the supervision of the Student Events House Manager, the usher will perform a variety of duties all relating to: welcoming and assisting patrons throughout all aspects of an event, e.g. parking and wayfinding to the venue, wayfinding within the venue; staffing the doors to take tickets and hand out programs; seating patrons; staffing the emergency exits and keeping the aisles and doorways clear; maintaining the venue’s policies [food, recording, power supply, etc.]; helping to keep the venue presentable and performance ready; and alerting the Student Events House Manager of any issues. The successful applicant must have the ability to work a variety of shifts during the daytime, evenings, and weekends. Learning Objectives: Demonstrate a “discerning eye” in order to effectively read the audience and forestall potential problems. Employ proactive and engaged customer services skills while assisting in the management of audiences of up to 1,000 people of diverse ages and needs. Provide quality customer service. Demonstrate good organizational and communication skills to facilitate exemplary teamwork. Gain an understanding of and demonstrate professionalism and confidence working in a fast paced academic environment. Have the opportunity to experience and gain a greater appreciation for different art forms.
