WE ARE ACCEPTING BOTH UNM WORKSTUDY AND NON-WORKSTUDY STUDENT APPLICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION Student Technicians leverage their knowledge and training within network operations to provide client support for issues with layers 1 through 3 of the OSI model. Opportunities include: Introduction to Networks, understanding of system interconnect via Data Link, Network Operations, Security and Policy, Configuration and management, and IP schema. Duties and responsibilities include: Student Technicians are responsible for daily operations of the Data Network. This includes acknowledging tickets and handling network triage for Layers 1 and 2. Data networks supports client demand 24/7, and technicians are expected to assist in maintaining that support during their scheduled hours. In addition to daily operations, technical specialists are also expected to support the staff during critical service restoration operations by providing on-site verification and coordinating with staff to restore service during their scheduled hours. Technicians also provide support by maintaining diagrams, documents, and records. This will include modifying and/or correcting diagrams and documents as needed within the central repository, as well as appending or creating listings on the CMDB and IBN within ServiceNow. Daily and weekly duties include: vehicle maintenance/inspection and cleaning, storeroom organization and inventory management, Surplus collation and submission, team meetings/trainings, and spare device management. Technicians are expected to handle all Port Activation Request (PARs) within the guided timeline, IP address management requests, including White/Blacklists, and all general campus LAN/WLAN connectivity issues up to Layer 3. All Student Technical Specialists are to complete the university mandatory yearly training, as well as the driver training.
