About The Position

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Assistant within the Department of Oral Biology at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine ( RSDM ). Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Student Assistant will investigate the role of lactoferrin as a modulator of oral microbial dysbiosis and inflammation in the context of Alzheimer’s disease. The goal of this research is to advance understanding of the microbiome-neuroinflammation axis and to identify potential microbiome-targeted interventions for age-related neurological conditions. New Jersey’s academic health center, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences ( RBHS ) takes an integrated approach to educating students, providing clinical care, and conducting research, all with the goal of improving human health. Responsibilities

  • Oral sample processing and microbial DNA extraction.
  • 16S rRNA library preparation and coordination of sequencing.
  • Microbiome data analysis (with bioinformatics core support).
  • Statistical correlation of microbial data with clinical parameters (bone loss, weight).
  • Optional qPCR and cytokine profiling.
  • Thesis writing, data presentation, and final defense preparation.
