About The Position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to join our Land Development team in our Richmond, VA office. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. The internship offers hands-on learning in planning, designing, and executing structural components in land development projects.

Requirements

• Demonstrates willingness to accept new challenges and learn specialized field
• Growing knowledge of profession as demonstrated by involvement in related professional organizations and professional development programs
• Basic knowledge of the firm’s policies, practices and procedures
• Basic knowledge of software required for position
• Good organizational skills
• Able to follow general directions and work with limited independence on basic computations
• Currently working towards completion of a Bachelor's degree in Civil / Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited college

Responsibilities

• Assist with the design and analysis of structures in residential, commercial, or mixed-use developments.
• Supporting the preparation of construction plans
• Performing structural calculations
• Conducting site visits, and collaborating with engineers and architects
• Gain experience with software tools used for structural design and drafting
• Participate in site assessments
• Help ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
