About The Position

The "Strategic Finance Operator, Data" builds the financial data infrastructure that all of the company's ventures depend on. This is a finance-first role, requiring an understanding of business operations, P&L statements, and financial accuracy. The differentiator for this role is strong technical capability, including SQL, data modeling, transformations, automation, and reporting infrastructure. The operator will build reliable and scalable financial outputs and eventually communicate their meaning to stakeholders. In the initial 6 months, the focus will be on building the foundational infrastructure, which involves systematizing data pulls, automating manual reconciliations, and building logic for edge cases. While data-focused, the role demands generalist financial acumen, driver-based instincts, multi-company fluency, and the ability to operate independently at a high level within the finance function.

Requirements

You have 3-6 years of FP&A, financial analysis, or a finance-adjacent analytical role
You can read a P&L, understand unit economics, and explain what a number means in business terms, not just what it equals
You use SQL to answer financial questions, not just pull data
You have built something from messy, real-world financial data, not a clean dataset
You understand revenue recognition across at least one business model well enough to defend it to an auditor
You know the difference between a technically correct output and a financially correct one
You have built a cohort model from raw data
You have worked in a multi-entity environment
You have experience with Aleph, Looker, Metabase, or a comparable FP&A or BI platform at the build level
You have automated a reporting process that used to require manual work, and can explain exactly what you built
You have enough accounting literacy to spot a miscoded transaction and know the correct treatment

Responsibilities

Build the data infrastructure all companies depend on
Build dashboards, models, automated reports, and data checks that are replicated across every company launched
Combine data expertise with financial and accounting acumen to automate workflows like revenue recognition, cohort analysis, and reconciliations
Build a cohort analysis from raw transactional data by structuring the data, building the model, and making it interpretable to an operator
Create automated financial alerts that catch problems early and surface them automatically to minimize manual financial review
Explain what the data means to CEOs, practice area leads, boards, and cross-functional teams as the foundation matures
Handle the full financial surface area, including valuations, tax considerations, SPV distributions, inter-company billing, and funding proposals
Navigate the full range of financial questions that arise across a growing portfolio with genuine competence
Read a P&L, understand unit economics, and know when a number is wrong based on business understanding
Hold financial context across multiple businesses simultaneously without confusing them
Build systems rather than just doing the work
Leave functions better than when found
Not wait to be told what needs fixing
