About The Position

The Engineering Manager/Lead – Water Resources is responsible for growing Barge's water resource practice in the Florida market while ensuring the technical excellence and operational efficiency of their team. This role combines high-level technical design leadership with strategic business development, working closely with local Client Service Leaders (CSLs) and directors to identify and win new pursuits. The ideal candidate is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) who can balance complex hydrologic and hydraulic modeling oversight with the mentorship and financial management of a growing practice area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited engineering program.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in stormwater design, H/H modeling, and/or floodplain management.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) is required.
  • Required technical proficiency in HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and SWMM-based software.
  • Experience performing water quality assessments, modeling, and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate employees and make sound business decisions.
  • Strong collaborative skills to meet defined objectives across various teams and solution centers.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to project and personnel issues as they arise.
  • Excellent communication skills for advising on strategic plans and presenting at industry events.
  • Physical ability to walk, stand, and occasionally climb or lift up to 40 lbs during site visits.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is considered a plus.
  • Experience with 2D modeling is a preferred asset.

Responsibilities

  • Practice Growth: Lead the expansion of the water resources practice in Florida, advancing initiatives that support a positive employee experience and a collaborative work environment.
  • Business Development: Work with leadership and CSLs to identify pursuits, develop technical approaches for competitive bids, and increase the Barge brand through conference presentations.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as the technical lead for Florida-based water resource issues, providing expert consulting on program objectives and H/H modeling requirements.
  • Project Delivery: Lead complex stormwater and water resource projects that have a significant impact on the firm’s strategic and financial goals.
  • Design & Review: Provide oversight and feedback on engineering specifications, drawings, and reports; directly complete design components for complex or conventional projects as needed.
  • Talent Management: Manage a group of employees, with responsibility for selection, coaching for improvement, and ensuring technical capabilities grow to meet future demands.
  • Strategic Planning: Play an active role in executing business planning activities related to the Florida stormwater market.
  • Financial Stewardship: Manage practice area financial success by ensuring team utilization rates meet goals and working to reduce project costs to maintain a competitive status.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, officials, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
