About The Position

The Intern position with the City of Manhattan offers an advanced and unique learning and leadership experience in municipal engineering. The Intern will assist other experienced design professionals in plan production and other project-related administrative and technical duties which may include surveying and construction inspection. Successful candidates will be exposed to all aspects of civil engineering including transportation and traffic, stormwater, water distribution and wastewater collection design.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Preference given to applicants currently enrolled in college at the junior or senior level, seeking an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with analysis, design and plan production for a variety of municipal public works projects.
  • Assists with the collection, organization and analysis of data needed for design development which may include onsite visits for field investigations.
  • Assists with calculation of plan quantities and the development of cost estimates.
  • Assists with construction administration or inspection as required which may include shop drawing review or materials testing.
  • Coordinates with engineers, CAD technicians and other support personnel.
  • Utilizes Excel, Word, Outlook, AutoCAD Civil 3d and other various civil engineering design software.
  • Demonstrates fervor to complete assignments and a continuous desire to improve upon new and learned skills.
  • Maintains open communication with leadership on all aspects of assigned projects.
  • Effectively interacts and works cooperatively with supervisors, fellow staff members, members of the community, and elected/appointed officials.
  • Attends job-related seminars, courses, meetings as part of job duties and educational requirements.
  • Maintains compliance with all government regulations and standards.
  • Reads and interprets federal and state environmental regulations and local ordinances.
  • Speaks and writes fluently in the English language.
  • Presents well-organized thoughts using proper grammatical structure.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
