About The Position

The Stewardship Crew Members work with the Friends of Acadia (FOA) Stewardship Coordinator and the Acadia National Park (ANP) Volunteer Coordinator to facilitate a long-standing volunteer stewardship program on Acadia’s trails and carriage roads. The program works with weekly drop-in and service group volunteers (mostly youth groups), contributing greatly to the maintenance of Acadia’s natural and cultural resources. Friends of Acadia is committed to providing an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming environment for visitors, volunteers and staff from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.

Requirements

  • Applicants will be required to pass a background check.
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Experience working with youth
  • Leadership experience
  • Natural resource, trail work, and/or manual labor experience
  • Outdoor experience. Must be capable of hiking up to 8 miles per day wearing a pack weighing up to 25lbs, working in inclement weather and on steep terrain, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle for driving to job sites. Applicants will be expected to use their own automobiles and will be reimbursed for mileage beyond their daily commute. Must also be comfortable driving a 12-passenger van and large trucks.
  • Must be able to attend the Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor course in June which may include one night of camping.
  • Familiarity with word processing and data entry.

  • High standard for safety, and comfortable giving feedback
  • Familiarity with typical trail tools (shovel, rake, Pulaski, drill, rock bar, etc.)
  • Training will be provided for this position, but knowledge of or willingness to learn about ANP trails and carriage roads is necessary. Must be eager and capable to work hard at a socially and physically demanding job, work in inclement weather (hot, cold, or wet), and attend to routine tasks.

  • FOA will reimburse up to $180 for the purchase of pants or shorts that meet uniform standards.
  • Employees earn one hour of paid leave for every 40 hours they work.
