About The Position

Rising Ground’s STEPS Criminalized Survivors Program (CSP) is an anti-intimate partner violence program offering trauma-informed, anti-oppressive programming focused on IPV prevention, advocacy, and healing for survivors and children. Founded in 1986, STEPS is survivor-centered, promoting support aligned with anti-oppressive, anti-racist, feminist/womanist principles to avoid re-traumatization. For over 30 years, STEPS CSP has provided comprehensive clinical and legal support to survivors of intimate partner violence or other gender-based violence who have been criminalized for resisting abuse, supporting those facing felony and/or misdemeanor charges across boroughs. The program also has an Advocate/Counselor at Manhattan and Brooklyn Family Justice Centers and a Training team leading the City's response to criminalized survivors. The STEPS CSP Supervisor will provide consistent supervision to direct service ATI staff, manage administrative and reporting needs for the ATI contract, carry a small caseload of ATI clients, and support the director with intakes, referrals, and funder reporting.

Requirements

  • LMSW, LMHC or other relevant, graduate degree required
  • Strong and dynamic counseling, advocacy, and supervisory skills
  • Nuanced understanding of the dynamics of gender-based violence and intersecting systems of oppression
  • Meaningful commitment to practicing from an anti-oppressive, healing-centered stance
  • High level of self-awareness and ability to give and receive feedback well
  • Impeccable attention to detail, systems, and processes
  • Ability to work with flexibility, independence, accountability, passion, and humor
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to work in-person in New York City (NY) for at least 3 days or more per week.
  • Ability to travel to other Rising Ground sites (if required)
  • Ability to travel within the community and to Rikers Island

Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, reliable and relationally grounded supervision to at least half of the direct service ATI staff; FJC Advocate, training team and graduate students, as needed
  • Work collaboratively to meet the administrative and reporting needs of the ATI contract
  • Provide survivor-centered counseling and advocacy to a small caseload of ATI clients
  • Manage intakes and referrals, as well as verifying participants for monthly caseload counts
  • Work closely with CSP Director to plan and facilitate weekly team meetings and annual retreats
  • Collaborate with leadership to monitor and ensure quality of ATI services
  • Facilitate bi-weekly group supervision using Seeking Safety, or in combination with other evidence-based interventions
  • Other tasks as assigned by STEPS CSP leadership
