About The Position

The STEAM Instructor will develop, adapt, and implement high-quality, interactive Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum as a part of Kenaitze education, cultural, and language programs. The STEAM Instructor will collaborate with local education agencies and entities to provide experiential learning to Tribal youth and families that is reflective of Kenaitze Indian Tribe's cultural values and grounded in Dena'ina ways of teaching, including but not limited to close observation and emulation, place-based learning, and all senses experiential learning.

Requirements

  • BA./B.S. in Education or other relevant field, or a combination of education and experience in related field may be substituted for a degree
  • Three (3) years of experience teaching students
  • Valid Alaska State Driver license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy
  • Must have Pediatric-Adult CPR & First Aid, or be obtained within 30 days
  • Creative, energetic, motivated approach to achieving goals
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work a varied work schedule, and travel to events, competitions and camps
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, or obtain training within 90 days of hire
  • Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others
  • This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and adapts cultural STEAM curriculum focusing on Kenaitze core values, Dena'ina culture, heritage, and language
  • Utilizes hands-on project based learning to teach concepts of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics
  • Adapts instructional methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities
  • Fosters a creative and collaborative learning environment that encourages innovation and critical thinking
  • Guides students through experiments, coding projects, engineering challenges and artistic applications
  • Trains staff on and maintain STEAM-related tools such as 3-D printers, robotics kits, coding software and lab equipment
  • Ensures a safe and organized learning environment by enforcing proper usage and safety protocols
  • Collaborates with local education agencies and community partners to coordinate learning events and opportunities
  • Establishes clear expectations and foster a positive, inclusive learning atmosphere for youth and families
  • Manages classroom behavior effectively to ensure a productive educational experience
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance
