About The Position

Are you a passionate communicator with a knack for digital storytelling? The Office of Data and Innovation (ODI) is looking for a Communications Coordinator to join our team! In this role, you will play a vital part in shaping ODI's public image and promoting our key messages and programs. What you'll do: Bring the work of ODI to life through social media and digital content Support the Communications team in telling stories about data, trainings, research, and human-centered design Assist in coordinating internal and external events Work in collaboration with other state departments and agencies This is a 12-month limited-term position which may be extended to 24 months and/or become permanent. The employee's workstation is located in Sacramento, CA. Travel may be required as needed to attend meetings, conferences, and/or training classes. Requirements

  • All interested applicants are required to submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ). Please provide direct responses to each of the numbered items listed below. Applicants must number and include the full text of the SOQ items in their response. Please include specific examples of your education, training, and/or experience. SOQs should be limited to a maximum of two (2) pages, single-spaced, twelve-point Arial font.
  • Describe a communications or strategic campaign you worked on. Explain your role and the deliverables you were responsible for.
  • Describe a time when you managed multiple high-priority tasks at once. How did you prioritize and ensure the work was delivered successfully? What strategies did you use to handle competing priorities.
  • Current version of the State Examination/Employment Application STD Form 678 (when not applying electronically), or the Electronic State Employment Application through your Applicant Account at www.CalCareers.ca.gov. Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing narrative and editorial content for strategic communications.
  • Excellent writing, interviewing, and editing skills, with a demonstrated ability to produce clear, compelling stories.
  • Demonstrated experience using platforms including X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, Nextdoor, and Bluesky
  • Advanced proficiency in digital media tools, such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Mailchimp or email clients, complemented by expertise in utilizing social media monitoring tools for comprehensive content management and engagement tracking across various platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through numerous communication channels including informational materials, paid advertising, earned media, and social media.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven setting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
