About The Position

Central Power Systems & Services is a privately held company with deep roots going back to 1954. We are looking for a Staff or Senior Accountant who shares our passion for our products, our desire for continued growth, and our commitment to build more meaningful relationships founded on trust and integrity. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant or Senior Accountant to join our Accounting team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in sales tax compliance, internal billing and general accounting functions. This role will be instrumental in ensuring timely tax filings and efficient billing processes across various departments. Prior experience in a mid- to large-sized corporate environment is highly preferred.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a mid- to large-sized company required.
  • Strong experience in multi-state sales and use tax compliance and filings.
  • Proficiency in internal billing or intercompany billing processes.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Proficient with Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file multi-state sales and use tax returns, ensuring full compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changing sales tax laws and regulations across jurisdictions.
  • Assist with sales tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Reconcile sales tax general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy in tax accruals.
  • Review and post internal repair orders.
  • Review and verify billing data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Resolve billing discrepancies and disputes by working closely with internal teams.
  • Prepare and analyze billing reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of billing policies and procedures.
  • Perform monthly audit of retail invoices posted by branches.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Support external audit requests and prepare documentation as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and corporate procedures.
  • Contribute to process improvements, automation, and efficiency initiatives within the accounting team.
