About The Position

The Staff Psychologist is an integral member of the James H. Quillen VAMC mental health team. They provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy, psycho-diagnostic screenings/assessments, mental health intakes, and mental health consultation services. This position serves as the pain psychologist within the Interventional Behavioral Pain Clinic including disciplines such as medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and physical therapy. The psychologist will provide specialized assessment and evidenced-based treatment for chronic pain conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mental disorders and provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services, conduct psychological assessments for clinical or administrative purposes, including Compensation and Pension Examinations, as directed by the Section Chief or designated Supervisor.
  • Treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities, and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders.
  • Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including: individual, group and family psychotherapy, caregiver stress support, cognitive-behavioral therapy, interpersonal and other forms of evidence based psychotherapy.
  • Provides supervision of trainees conducting direct clinical care.
  • Consults with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues.
  • Remains involved in program evaluation and/or research activities.
  • Provides administrative duties including, attending organizational meetings.
  • May provide clinical supervision to various disciplines and levels of training, including trainees seeking licensure in psychology.
