About The Position

South Texas VA Health Care System's Surgical Care Service/Urology Section is looking for both Full-time (40hrs/wk) and Part-time (30hrs/wk) Urologists to fill their vacant position(s) at Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans' Hospital in San Antonio - Texas. The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) Surgical Care Service/Urology Section provides urologic care The mission of Surgical Care Service/Urology Section of the Veterans Health Administration -South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) is to serve the needs of America's Veterans by providing the highest quality care To accomplish this mission - the Urology Services needs to be: Fully integrated into the interdisciplinary health care team - providing the full scope of urology services based on education - training - licensure and competency An emphasis on prevention and wellness as the overriding philosophy of practice - and Provide care in the most cost-effective manner while assuring adequate access - and maintain a high level of quality as measured by patient satisfaction As the Urology staff physician - you will be assigned to Surgical Services - Urology Section - of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System You will provide comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of Urology The scope of these activities covers hospitalized patients and all phases of ambulatory care Other responsibilities may include education of medical students and residents and/or supervision of other providers

Requirements

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
  • Licensure: Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) - OR (2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) -OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) - which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences
