The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse registered in Massachusetts who is responsible and accountable for planning and providing patient care for assigned patients in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care as set forth in the Nursing Department's Clinical Practice Manual. The registered nurse demonstrates initiative, knowledge, and clinical skills in caring for the patient with complex needs. The Registered Nurse demonstrates the ability to effectively manage patients by assuming full responsibility for the assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of patient care and is directly responsible to a designated nurse manager or supervisor.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current registration in Massachusetts.
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required for newly licensed nurses.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent (within 12 months) clinical nursing experience in an Ambulatory Clinic/Practice setting and/or emergency room setting.
  • Experience providing in-person triage and direct patient care for acute and chronic conditions as appropriate for an ambulatory outpatient setting, urgent care, or ED.
  • ANCC specialty certification required within 2 years.
  • Able to work weekend rotation per the MNA contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with telephone triage and telephone-based clinical assessment techniques strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Endocrine, Gynecology, Menopause-related patient care delivery as an ambulatory nurse is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with triage in Cardiology or Gastroenterology is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with triage in Infectious disease, renal medicine, sleep medicine, hematology and neurology is preferred.
  • Experience with team-based care preferred.
  • Membership in professional organizations is recommended.
  • Nursing certification in Ambulatory Care or an Ambulatory Specialty area is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing nursing support and care to patients within the ambulatory practice setting of the Fish Center for Women’s Health, a multispecialty clinic located at 850 Boylston Street in Chestnut Hill.
  • The primary triage responsibilities will include the following specialties: Gynecology, Menopause, Endocrinology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Renal Medicine, Neurology, Hematology, and Sleep Medicine.
  • Ensuring that ambulatory patients are seen in a timely manner by the appropriate clinician(s) and that appropriate coordination of care and communication is maintained with the patients and referring providers.
  • Providing clinical telephone triage, especially for urgent clinical situations, and general nursing support for patients across the Fish Center for Women’s Health.
  • Maintaining familiarity with department activity and a close working relationship with clinicians and support staff to provide the most appropriate triage and facilitate timely and effective communication and scheduling.
  • Participating in departmental and organizational quality management and/or quality improvement projects as directed by the leadership team.
  • Proficient use of the electronic medical record, documenting in a manner that is clear, complete, concise, and in SBAR format when appropriate to remain compliant with nursing standards.
  • Working in a normal office setting; work entails extended periods of sitting and fast-paced, phone-based care.
  • Preparing, performing, and documenting the coordination of clinical care, including but not limited to assisting patients with medication questions, delivering lab results, and providing patient education as needed and requested.
  • Working collaboratively to provide excellent care to patients and families in the safest environment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervising physician or leadership team.
  • Planning and providing patient care for assigned patients in accordance with Nursing Standards of Care as set forth in the Nursing Department's Clinical Practice Manual.
  • Assuming full responsibility for the assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
