About The Position

As a Staff Manufacturing Engineer at Biofire, you will define, architect, and continuously improve the manufacturing systems that enable safe, high-quality, and cost-effective production at scale. This role operates beyond individual fixtures or lines, owning system-level manufacturing strategy and long-term scalability across internal and external production. We are looking for someone who brings strong manufacturing intuition, systems-level thinking, and a track record of scaling complex electro-mechanical products. You will partner closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations to shape production systems early—anticipating risks, setting standards, and ensuring that designs transition cleanly from intent to execution. To succeed, you will need to deliver leverage through durable manufacturing systems, translate data into clear direction, and lead ambiguous, cross-functional problems to closure. You should be energized by transforming early-stage manufacturing into a world-class production environment while advancing Biofire’s mission of bringing innovative safety technology to market. If you’re excited to own manufacturing at the system level, we encourage you to apply.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience scaling manufacturing systems from prototyping through high-volume production;
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing system design, process controls, and production readiness;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead ambiguous, cross-functional manufacturing problems to closure;
  • Experience working closely with design, quality, and operations teams;
  • Proven ability to design processes that balance quality, cost, and speed;

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading production ramps or new manufacturing line implementations;
  • Background in fixture strategy, automation readiness, or semi-automated assembly systems;
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma);
  • Familiarity with MES systems, production data, and performance metrics;
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, highly collaborative startup or early-stage environment;

Responsibilities

  • Architect end-to-end manufacturing systems and production line concepts that meet throughput, quality, safety, and cost targets;
  • Define scalable approaches to workcell design, line layout, fixturing strategy, and production flow across programs;
  • Lead system-level manufacturing strategy for production ramps, new lines, and future automation;
  • Partner with Design Engineering to influence designs upstream and ensure manufacturability at scale;
  • Shape make vs. buy decisions based on cost, complexity, capacity, and risk;
  • Establish and maintain manufacturing standards for fixtures, process controls, work instructions, and validation;
  • Translate ECOs, leadership direction, and cross-functional decisions into coherent manufacturing system changes;
  • Lead root-cause analysis of systemic production issues impacting yield, reliability, safety, or cost;
  • Mentor and develop manufacturing engineers through technical guidance, reviews, and example;
  • Engage hands-on in production builds or troubleshooting when needed, while prioritizing long-term system health;

Benefits

  • Stock Options in Biofire, 401(k), HSA, and other financial benefits
  • Medical Insurance, including plan options with $0 payroll deduction
  • Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance Plans with $0 payroll deduction
  • 3 Weeks Vacation and Sick Time (Flex Time for salaried positions), plus 13 Paid Holidays
  • Parental Leave and other family-building, adoption, and surrogacy benefits
