This role will work a Flex/Hybrid schedule with 3 days per week(could be more based on study support) onsite in our Irvine, CA office. Job Summary: The Biosense Webster Usability and Design team is seeking a human centered Industrial / UXUI Designer who is passionate about improving the quality of people's lives through compelling design experiences. This is a rare opportunity to be at the forefront of product development for medical devices. We are seeking a designer who has a strong skillset in industrial design but can also handle UX/UI design activities. They will deliver cohesive, safe, and delightful experiences across our electrophysiology portfolio. They will lead early-stage user research—including contextual inquiry, workflow analysis, and needs finding—and translate insights into design requirements, concept architectures, experience principles, and interaction patterns. They will execute ID and UX/UI design for catheter systems and accessories, craft distinctive form language and CMF and produce photorealistic renderings and storyboards. They will also handoff designs to manufacturing partners (tooling, suppliers) to ensure design intent and quality are preserved through pilot and ramp-up under design controls. They will be responsible for educating and guiding teams through design activities and requirements throughout the product development process.

Requirements

  • University/Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design (or Product Design/HCI with strong physical design portfolio).
  • At least 5 years professional design experience.
  • Demonstrated UX/UI design capability (flows, wireframes, high-fidelity prototypes, visual systems) for clinician or complex technical users.
  • Rendering/visualization mastery; compelling storytelling and design communication.
  • Experience handing off designs to manufacturing partners, including supplier collaboration for tooling and pilot builds.
  • Portfolio showing form development, CMF, UX/UI execution, and research-to-design traceability.
  • Collaboration with product managers, marketing, R&D and human factors on user tests and insight-driven iteration.
  • The candidate has demonstrated ability to lead project-level user research activities, including contextual inquiry, ethnographic studies and requirements definition
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate with stakeholders and provide disposition feedback and/or suggestions for design decisions.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%, domestic and international is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in delivering advanced CAD surfacing (G2/G3 continuity) with Class-A standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct contextual inquiries in cath labs and simulation environments; perform task analyses, workflow mapping, and environment assessments.
  • Convert insights into UX flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and visual design systems for clinician software and device interfaces; define design tokens and guidelines for consistency.
  • Establish design systems and CMF strategies grounded in clinical utility and brand coherence.
  • Create parametric/surface CAD with G2/G3 curvature continuity; achieve Class-A surfacing ready for tooling.
  • Produce photorealistic renderings, animations, exploded views, and communication assets to align cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Build and evaluate physical and digital prototypes; plan and support formative usability studies; synthesize findings into design iterations and requirements.
  • Prepare production-ready CAD, GD&T, CMF specifications, and tolerance stacks; collaborate with manufacturing/supplier teams during DFM/DFA, tooling, and pilot builds to maintain design fidelity.
  • Operate within R&D phase-gate or agile frameworks; collaborate with HF engineering, systems, medical affairs, manufacturing, and marketing; communicate decisions and trade-offs clearly.
  • Network with key contacts outside own area of expertise, contributes to cross functional decisions; understands importance of alignment and negotiation, representing the voice of the customer from a design and technical application perspective for new product development.
  • Identify areas for innovation in human factors and design.
