About The Position

The American Housing Corporation is on a mission to solve the America’s housing crisis through all-out production. We believe that America’s affordability crisis is fundamentally a production crisis, and that solving it requires a vertically integrated development approach: We buy land, and manufacture, install, and sell our homes directly to customers. The American Dream is built, not inherited. We're hiring the best engineers, designers, and builders to solve the hardest problem in America. We’re based in Austin, TX and build across the country. As an Industrial Designer, you will be at the center of how our homes look, feel, and perform, bridging the worlds of architecture, manufacturing, and supply chain to deliver exceptional homes at scale. You will work on the selection and optimization of surfaces, fixtures, and finishes. The role would require both creativity and meticulous attention to detail. The role is based full-time in Austin, TX and reports to VP of Architecture. Perfect for an experienced designer who prefers to work hands-on rather than manage a team.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in industrial design with demonstrated exposure to architectural-scale projects.
  • Hands-on experience with carpentry, rapid prototyping, and physical fabrication.
  • Proven track record of managing material selection and finish specifications across complex projects.

  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., Rhino, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Experience in value engineering or cost optimization in a design-driven context.

  • Partner with the procurement team to identify suppliers capable of delivering intended quality at competitive price points and reliable timelines. Continuously evaluate new materials and products, identifying opportunities to improve quality, durability, or cost-efficiency.
  • Develop physical prototypes and material mock-ups to test and validate design decisions before full-scale production.
  • Apply hands-on skills in fabrication to build proof-of-concept models and evaluate construction details.
