About The Position

We’re looking for a Staff Accountant who wants to use their accounting skills to support meaningful work. In this role, you’ll be a key part of our finance team—helping ensure financial accuracy, supporting staff and vendors, and strengthening the systems that allow our mission to thrive. As our Staff Accountant, you’ll handle a variety of accounting responsibilities that keep our day-to-day operations moving forward

Requirements

• An Associate degree in Accounting or at least three years of accounting/bookkeeping experience
• Experience with accounts payable and general accounting functions
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
• Excellent communication skills and a service-oriented mindset
• The ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
• A problem-solving approach and strong attention to detail
• Valid New York State driver’s license
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
• Regular, reliable attendance

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with sales and use tax (a plus!)

Responsibilities

• Processing accounts payable with accuracy and timeliness
• Reconciling vendor statements and resolving discrepancies
• Serving as a professional, friendly point of contact for staff, clients, and vendors
• Recording banking and ACH activity in the general ledger
• Managing credit card activity , ensuring expenses are documented and recorded correctly
• Tracking prepaid and restricted donor expenses
• Preparing monthly and year-end journal entries to support financial close
• Organizing and maintaining financial documentation for grant and reporting purposes
• Assisting with annual filings , including 1099s
• Providing backup support for bi-weekly payroll when needed
• Supporting internal controls, financial policies, and team collaboration
• Pitching in with other accounting duties as needed—we’re a team, and we support one another
