About The Position

We are seeking a full-time Staff Accountant located in the greater Grand Rapids area to join our growing team in retail consumer collections. The Staff Accountant supports the finance and accounting department by performing daily accounting tasks, including management of the accounts payable system, maintaining financial records, and assisting with month‑end and year‑end close processes. This role ensures accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting to help the organization make informed financial decisions.

Requirements

  • Previous accounting experience preferred
  • Proficiency with accounting software (experience with Microsoft Business Central preferred)
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, tables and arrays)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business, Finance, or relevant experience required

Responsibilities

  • Complete monthly adjusting journal entries to help close the month in a timely manner
  • Maintain tie-out spreadsheets for selected general ledger accounts for firm and related entities, to report detail items on the account balances
  • Ensure all intercompany transactions are completed on all related entities, and that corresponding receivable/payable accounts balance to each other
  • Assist in reporting for the company’s annual audit
  • Complete bank reconciliations on a daily or monthly basis, depending on the type of account
  • Manage the positive pay function both reporting to the bank and making decisions on transactions
  • Maintain the company’s accounts payable process, ensuring proper coding of invoices and timely payment of obligations
  • Maintain company compliance for governmental and regulatory matters
