About The Position

Albizu University is seeking qualified applicants for the Staff Accountant position within the Finance Department. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the accounting and financial operations of the University. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing activities. The Staff Accountant works collaboratively with Finance and other departments to ensure compliance with institutional policies, accounting standards, and sound financial management practices.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
1 year of accounting experience, preferably in higher education or a non-profit environment.
Experience with ERP accounting systems; Ellucian experience preferred.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry and reporting.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service-oriented approach.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting principles.
Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, and printers.
May require occasional overtime during reporting periods or special projects.

Responsibilities

Perform accurate and timely data entry for accounts payable and receivable transactions.
Prepare, review, and process invoices, billing statements, and payment vouchers for customers and vendors.
Reconcile financial documents, including receipts, purchase orders, and payment vouchers, in accordance with established accounting procedures.
Support the month-end and year-end closing processes by ensuring timely recording of all financial transactions.
Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records, both digital and physical, ensuring compliance and accessibility.
Assist in preparing financial reports related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other key financial indicators.
Monitor account balances and support reconciliation of general ledger accounts as needed.
Respond to inquiries from staff, students, and vendors regarding billing, payments, and account status.
Collaborate with the accounting team to identify and resolve discrepancies or variances in financial data.
Assist with internal and external audit preparation and respond to audit requests as needed.
Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and financial controls.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager or designated leadership.
