About The Position

Staff Accountant Position Overview The Staff Accountant will play a key role in supporting day‑to‑day accounting operations, financial reporting, and strengthening internal controls. This role is designed for a high‑performing professional who is eager to grow their Accounting career toward a managerial/leadership position. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, proactive, and motivated to help build a best‑in‑class finance function for a dynamic and growing company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, job costing, and WIP reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort with data analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with both field and office teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential and desire to grow into a management role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Public Accounting is strongly preferred, with experience in construction, contracting, or project‑based industries, a plus.
  • Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Maintains general ledger activity, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Maintains the Company’s monthly WIP schedule and project revenue projections.
  • Support month‑end and year‑end close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation entries.
  • Collaborates with project managers to track budgets, costs, and billing.
  • Review subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition in accordance with percentage‑of‑completion or other relevant methods.
  • Understands and helps monitor change orders, retention, and progress billing.
  • Provides suggestions and assists with process improvements to strengthen internal controls and accounting policies as the company scales.
  • Assists with external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and industry-specific accounting standards.
  • Identify process improvements and implement automation where possible.
  • Partner with the Director of Accounting on strategic financial initiatives.
  • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity and collaborate across the business to help provide meaningful financial reporting and analyses.
